Skill Development
We believe that skills development is a very important programme here at YMCA Newcastle. This includes volunteers who play a vital role in the delivery of our services and take part in number of activities, some of which are recurring annual events, such as our sailing trip, and regular community events which happen across the year.
Volunteering Courses
At Newcastle YMCA our volunteers are important to us as they play a vital role in the delivery of our services. Thanks to a partnership with Changemakers we are able to offer additional training for our volunteers in a variety of services.
Activities
One of the many things we do at Newcastle YMCA is to help young people engage in a number of activities. Many of these are organised by the young people themselves and are welcome to all. Several activities have proven so successful in the past that they have become regular and recurring annual events. Some of our most successful activities include:
- Holocaust group
- The AGM Fashion Show
- Urban Alchemy
- Sailing
- The Walker Park Festival
Residential Trips
With the aid of the young people at Newcastle YMCA we plan trips as a way to raise their self confidence, creating opportunities for the young people to broaden their horizons and give them a platform to see a world outside of their own. In the past our young people have helped arrange some of our most successful trips including:
Field Trip to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Germany.
- Wigwam camp at Berwick upon Tweed.
- Rookin House supported by Youth Opportunity Fund
- The annual sailing trip.
Community Events
Newcastle YMCA has been involved in many events within the local community. Most of these events run annually. We either take part with the young people or some of our staff members will act as stewards. In the past Newcastle YMCA has played a role in the following events:
- Walker Park Festival
- St Lawrence Park, Fun Day
- Walker Park Bonfire night
- Young Peoples Christmas Party
